From September 1, 2025, the Mont Blanc Tunnel, a key transport artery between France and Italy, is completely closed for more than three months due to major repairs. The traffic restrictions will lead to serious disruptions to international road transport and will force companies to look for longer and more expensive routes.

According to the operator, partial traffic cannot be maintained due to the volume of reconstruction. The closure creates significant risks for trade between the countries and raises concerns among market participants.

ATMB has proposed a map of bypass routes: the Frejus Tunnel will be the main option, but overloads are predicted there. The Great St Bernard Tunnel is accessible, but closed for the transport of dangerous goods. Additional passes depend on weather conditions and are unsafe in the autumn and winter.
