As of 1 January 2026, the Kombiverkehr Group will take over the management of the terminal in the port of Duisburg-Ruhrort, which belongs to Planungsgesellschaft Kombinierter Verkehr mbH (PKV). The facility will be operated by the subsidiary Kombiverkehr Intermodal Services GmbH Duisburg, and the terminal itself will be renamed Rail Hub Duisburg. This will mark the first change of operator in more than 20 years.

According to Heiko Krebs, Managing Director of Kombiverkehr KG, the terminal plays a key role in the company’s European network: from Duisburg, rail transport can be organized to more than 20 countries. Kombiverkehr already accounts for around 95% of all traffic today, and the company will now be able to directly implement its management expertise, while guaranteeing equal access to the infrastructure for third parties.

The terminal, built in the early 1990s, covers an area of 85,000 m², has three cranes over eight tracks and a reach stacker, and has a capacity of around 200,000 units per year. From the end of autumn 2025, new equipment will be in operation here, capable of lifting tank containers weighing up to 75 tons. The infrastructure also includes storage areas, including two tanks for hazardous goods, which strengthens the importance of Rail Hub Duisburg as a strategic intermodal hub.
