In Duisburg, Solarport Duisburg, a joint venture between Duisport and Stadtwerke Duisburg, is implementing two major solar power projects. A new logistics site with a 1.65 MW installation will be built on Mercator Island by 2026, while a further 1.04 MW system will be installed in an existing warehouse in the Rheinhausen area (Logport I). Both projects have already been awarded contracts in the latest tender of the German Federal Grid Agency.
Solarport Duisburg, which is owned equally by the partners, is focusing on the use of port roofs for solar energy generation. The aim of the initiative is to move Duisburg towards climate neutrality, with further projects planned.
The company management emphasizes that the combined expertise of Duisport and Stadtwerke Duisburg accelerates the implementation of solutions. However, not every roof is suitable for the installation of panels, so the investment will be developed gradually.
