The trains will follow a fixed timetable, departing from Poti at 21:30 and arriving in Tbilisi at 09:47 the following morning.

Georgian Railway has introduced a new scheduled container block train service operating four times per week between the Port of Poti and Tbilisi.

The company states that the new arrangement will enable cargo owners to move containers between the port and inland terminals without waiting for full train loads. Each shipment will proceed according to the schedule regardless of the train’s fill rate.

This regularity is intended to provide predictability for shippers managing return deadlines imposed by shipping lines. According to Georgian Railway, the service also targets a modal shift of container transport—particularly empties—from road to rail, reducing traffic congestion and emissions along the corridor.

The first train under the new timetable arrived at Tbilisi Dry Port on 6 August 2025. Representatives of Georgian Railway, the Tbilisi Dry Port, and MSC Georgia were present at the terminal to mark the beginning of operations.

The initiative is expected to simplify inland container logistics in Georgia’s key east-west corridor.
