After 15 years of cooperation, logistics company Rhenus and global life sciences leader Merck have implemented an environmentally friendly solution: a B100 biodiesel shuttle between the Merck plant in Molsheim and the Rhenus warehouse in Strasbourg. The project is part of a strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop sustainable logistics in the Alsace region.
The B100 fuel is produced exclusively from renewable sources such as vegetable oils and reduces CO₂ emissions by more than 55% compared to diesel: instead of 6.8 tons of CO₂ per month, the shuttle emits around 3 tons, thereby preventing 3.75 tons of emissions. To ensure sustainable transport and environmental control, Rhenus has invested in special equipment, a filling station in Strasbourg and an emissions monitoring system.
Representatives of both companies emphasize that this is only the first step towards the complete electrification of logistics. The launch of the eco-shuttle and the 15-year partnership will be celebrated on July 4, 2025, at the Rhenus warehouse in Strasbourg. Plans include expanding the B100 fleet throughout France and further transforming logistics processes together with Merck.
