The grand opening of the modern ZHETYSU container terminal, one of the key projects in the strategy of transforming Kazakhstan into a transport and logistics hub of Central Asia, took place in Almaty. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Board of JSC Samruk-Kazyna Nurlan Zhakupov, Akim of Almaty Darkhan Satybaldy, and the Governor of the Chinese province of Shaanxi Zhao Gang. On the opening day, the first container train from Chinese Xi’an arrived at the terminal.

The new hub is the result of an international partnership between JSC Kedentransservice (a subsidiary of JSC NC KTZ) and the Chinese Xi’an Free Trade Port Construction and Operation Co., Ltd. With a design capacity of 115,000 TEU per year and an area of almost 10 hectares, the ZHETYSU terminal is located at the intersection of key transport routes and will become the country’s largest import hub. The modern infrastructure includes warehouse space (23,400 sq. m), a container yard for 1,101 TEU and parking for commercial vehicles.
The project has acquired symbolic significance within the framework of the One Belt, One Road initiative, emphasizing Kazakhstan’s desire to deepen logistics integration with China and Eurasia. Representatives of the two countries planted trees on the territory of the terminal as a sign of sustainable partnership and environmental responsibility.
