Rail operator Elron has started serving passengers on the new platform at Ülemiste station in Tallinn – the first completed element of the future Linda international terminal, which is being built as part of the Rail Baltica project. The new 230-metre-long and 9.3-metre-wide platform replaces the old infrastructure and already offers passengers more comfortable and modern waiting and boarding conditions.

According to Rail Baltic Estonia, the construction of the largest transport hub in the country’s history is continuing in stages. The unique terminal will connect railways with different gauges, trams, a bus network, bicycle and pedestrian routes, and will also provide direct access to Tallinn Airport. The architectural design was developed by Zaha Hadid Architects in collaboration with the Estonian company Esplan, and the work is scheduled to be completed in 2028.

For Elron, the launch of the new platform is an important step in improving the quality of service for more than 8 million passengers annually. The company expects to expand routes to Pärnu, Riga, Kaunas and Warsaw, with the Linda terminal becoming a key transfer point. The project is financed with the support of the European Union funds – Cohesion Fund and Connecting Europe Facility.
