JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy plans to complete the construction of a new 75 km railway line by the end of 2025, which will bypass the congested Almaty railway junction. 96% of the excavation work has already been completed, over 30 km of track and sleeper grid have been laid, 17 of 19 bridges have been installed, and 49 of 55 utility pipes have been installed. Electrical equipment and blocking systems are being installed at the same time.

The project is being implemented with maximum use of local resources: the share of Kazakhstani content is 85%. The national carrier purchased 228 thousand sleepers and 16 thousand tons of rails from domestic enterprises, and also uses inert materials supplied by local companies. All construction and installation work is carried out by Kazakhstani contractors.
The new Zhetygen – Kazybek bek line will relieve the Almaty-1 station, which receives intensive transit and domestic freight traffic. Once commissioned, most freight traffic will be redirected to a bypass route, which will increase the capacity and sustainability of the entire railway infrastructure in the region.
