Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) has welcomed its first scheduled cargo flights from China, operated by China Southern Air Logistics. The new route from Guangzhou commenced on 16 May 2025 and will operate four flights a week, with the potential to increase to daily departures.
The agreement with the Chinese operator doubles the airport’s scheduled cargo capacity and opens a direct export channel for high-value Scottish goods including seafood and whisky. Airport CEO Ian Forgie described it as a strategic breakthrough and promised further airline announcements.
Prestwick has invested £2.3m in new cargo handling equipment and cold chain facilities in preparation for the launch of the route. 24-hour operations, widebody capacity and zero congestion were key to the deal’s success.
