China Airlines has placed an order for four Boeing 777-8 Freighters, ten 777-9 passenger jets and nine options. The new contract will replace aging models and significantly expand long-haul capacity.
The 777-8F offers the same cargo capacity as a Boeing 747 while using 30% less fuel, which is in line with the carrier’s environmental goals. Given that China Airlines already operates 777s and 747s in freighter configurations, the new addition will provide technical commonality and greater operational flexibility.
The deal was finalized in March, making China Airlines the first operator of the 777X family of aircraft in Taiwan. The order is part of Boeing’s growing 777X portfolio, which now exceeds 520 aircraft.
