The German Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) recorded a decline in heavy truck traffic on toll roads in February 2025. After a 3.5% year-on-year increase in January, the volume of transport by trucks over 3.5 tonnes fell by 2.5% year-on-year in February. Both German and Polish carriers recorded a drop in mileage, while Lithuanian trucks showed even weaker results.

The decline was particularly noticeable in the segment of vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 7.5 tonnes and more: mileage fell by 4.9% compared to February 2024. German trucks showed a decline of 5.6%, while Polish trucks showed a decline of 4.4%. These data indicate a general decline in international road transport activity in Germany.

However, the situation began to improve in March. According to preliminary data from BALM, truck miles travelled on German motorways increased: the seasonally and calendar-adjusted index increased by 2.7% compared to February and by 0.9% compared to March last year.
