The Szczecin and Świnoujście Port Authority has completed the reconstruction of a section of the Grain Quay, significantly increasing its handling capacity. The berth can now handle vessels with a draft of up to 11 metres, the same as those that can enter the port via the deepened fairway. Previously, the depth limit was 10 metres, which allowed for the handling of vessels with a draft of up to 9 metres.

The work included strengthening the bottom and reconstructing the Luxembourg and initial sections of the Grain Quay. The main stage of the modernisation was the installation of special “mattresses” made of durable fabric, filled with concrete and connected underwater into a single structure. This made it possible to achieve a technical depth of up to 12.5 metres. The method is similar to that used on the neighbouring Dębicki Canal as part of a project to improve access to the port.

The construction began in February 2024 and was completed right on time: on February 21, the design documentation for the new depth was received, and on February 28, the final acceptance of the facility took place. The total cost of the work was PLN 14.6 million (gross), and financing was carried out from the Port Authority’s own funds.
