Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) has opened a new cargo inspection point at the Cargo West site, the first step in a major upgrade of the security access area.
The facility, which took 15 months to build at a cost of €6 million, now serves as the main point for unloading, checking and handing over cargo into the airport’s security area. According to CEO Thilo Schmid, the project will improve logistics efficiency. Plans include a border control point and a new entry terminal for oversized cargo.
The complex is equipped with environmentally friendly solutions, including a hybrid timber structure, solar panels to power electric forklifts, a rainwater collection system and the airport’s first heat pump system. The new Z40 entrance next to the inspection point is scheduled to open in September.
