The Port of Klaipeda continues to implement its strategy to become a leading hub for port services, maritime industry and green energy. Over the next four years, the port administration will allocate 308 million euros for infrastructure modernization, business development and environmentally friendly technologies. Key projects include the creation of wind energy infrastructure on the Smelte Peninsula, the construction of the largest green hydrogen production station in the Baltics, and the development of a new 100-hectare area in the southern part of the port.
The port is actively expanding its capabilities for marine tourism and cruise shipping. In the next three years, the reconstruction and construction of new berths in the central part of the city will begin, adapting the depths to receive large liners. The new cruise terminal will not only be a transport hub, but also a public space with an amphitheater, promenades and recreation areas.
As part of the environmental initiative, the port is introducing berth electrification to reduce CO₂ emissions: power supply stations for ferries and container ships will be installed at the terminals. A modern fleet base is also being built, where two hybrid pilot boats and the country’s first waste collection vessel powered by green hydrogen, which will be produced directly in the port, will be ready for operation by the end of the year. These initiatives confirm the strategy of the Port of Klaipeda to become the leading environmentally friendly and innovative transport hub in the Baltic region.
