The Klaipeda Port Authority has signed a contract for the reconstruction of the berths on the Smelte Peninsula, which will ensure the assembly, handling and transportation of wind turbines. The work will be carried out by UAB Tilsta, which will deepen the water area to 12 meters and modernize 453 meters of the berth front, preparing it for high loads. The cost of the project is 36.6 million euros excluding VAT.

In 2022, the port and KLASCO signed an investment agreement on the creation of the necessary infrastructure for future wind farms in the Baltic Sea. The project has passed an environmental assessment and does not require additional environmental impact assessment.

The development of offshore wind energy in the Klaipeda Port will open up new economic opportunities, creating jobs and promoting the development of shipbuilding and repair companies. In addition, this sector can positively affect the service sector, the hotel business and educational programs related to renewable energy sources.
