The construction of the third Ro-PAX ferry for ASCO continues as part of the company’s development strategy aimed at strengthening cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor. The vessel will become an important link in the transport network connecting the East and West. Currently, hull work is 88% complete, engineering – 97%, and procurement – 82%. The main engines, fire extinguishing and fresh water systems, freight elevator, pumps and electrical panels have already been installed. The overall project completion has reached 49%, and the delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
In terms of its characteristics, the new ferry is identical to the Azerbaijan and Zarifa Aliyeva vessels, which were commissioned by ASCO in 2021 and 2022. Its deadweight will be 5,740 tons, length – 154.5 meters, width – 17.7 meters, side height – 7.5 meters. The maximum speed of the vessel will reach 14 knots. It will be able to carry 100 passengers and up to 56 tank cars or 50 trucks.
The construction of Ro-PAX vessels in Azerbaijan allows us to avoid purchasing them abroad and take into account modern requirements for the transportation of goods and passengers in the Caspian Sea. The Baku Shipyard is implementing the project taking into account the growth of the country’s transit potential and the strengthening of international transport corridors.
