DP World launches carbon footprint reduction programme at its UK terminals.

DP World has begun trials of a new Carbon Inset Programme at its London and Southampton logistics hubs to help importers reduce their emissions. From 1 January 2025, participants will receive 50kg of CO₂e carbon credits for every loaded container passing through the company’s terminals. The credits, certified by independent organisations, will be issued quarterly and demonstrate the reduction in emissions in participants’ supply chains.

Unlike traditional carbon offsets, inset credits reflect real emissions reductions achieved directly in the supply chain. The credits are generated by DP World subsidiary Unifeeder, which uses low-carbon fuels in its European shipping fleet. If half of the import volumes at DP World’s terminals participate in the programme, it will replace more than 11,000 tonnes of traditional fuel with low-carbon fuels, equivalent to a reduction of 10,000 tonnes of CO₂.

The initiative follows on from the successful Modal Shift Programme, which helped the company’s partners reduce emissions by 17,000 tonnes in its first year and was awarded Transport and Mobility Project of the Year at the edie Net Zero Awards. DP World is thus demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality.
