JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at modernising Kazakhstan’s railway sector. The memorandum, signed by Chairman of the Board of KTZ Nurlan Sauranbayev and EBRD Vice President Matteo Patrone, envisages improving the infrastructure of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and introducing advanced environmental, social and corporate responsibility (ESG) standards.

The agreement was supported by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who met with EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso at the plenary session of the Foreign Investors Council. The President of Kazakhstan stressed the importance of this cooperation for the country’s economy, noting the EBRD’s contribution to the development of the investment climate and infrastructure. The EBRD also plans to channel two billion euros into Kazakhstan’s economy for “green” projects in the coming years, and has already invested $650 million in 22 projects this year.

The EBRD expressed its readiness to continue supporting infrastructure and environmental projects in Kazakhstan, highlighting the importance of open and transparent engagement, which also extends to the procurement processes of companies such as Samruk-Kazyna.
