Deutsche Bahn Cargo CEO Sigrid Nikutta has announced a major restructuring of the company, aimed at creating specialized units and significantly reducing costs. The decision comes after DB found a buyer for its logistics division, which was the catalyst for the restructuring of the freight operator DB Cargo into a logistics company.

As part of the new restructuring plan, DB Cargo plans to create separate business units specializing in integrated logistics services for various industries, such as metallurgy, the automotive industry and the chemical industry. The company also plans to introduce combined transport products combining rail, sea and land transport.

In addition, as part of the cost-cutting program, DB Cargo intends to lay off 2,300 employees, which is around 8% of the total workforce. Further layoffs are planned in the future, which underlines the need to optimize the company’s resources.
