A new intermodal route will connect Budapest and Luxembourg.

CFL multimodal, together with the MAHART Container Center Terminal and VTG Hungary, are launching a new intermodal rail route between Budapest and Bettembourg-Dudelange. The project is supported by the Association of Hungarian Logistics Centres (MLSZKSZ). The train is scheduled to start operating in the first quarter of 2025, with four weekly journeys carrying containers and semi-trailers.

The aim of the project is to help transport and logistics companies switch from road transport to intermodal transport, allowing them to meet sustainability requirements and reduce their carbon footprint. It will also strengthen logistics links between Central and Eastern Europe and key ports in southwestern Europe.

MLSZKSZ is supporting the project by conducting market research and managing a subsidy program for Hungarian companies wishing to use rail transport. The official presentation of the project will take place on October 18, 2024 at the Eastern European Intermodal Conference in Budapest.
