In February 2025, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd will launch an operational collaboration called Gemini Cooperation, aimed at creating a flexible and interconnected maritime network with a high schedule reliability of over 90%. The joint network will cover East-West shipping and will be a significant step in the long-term cooperation between the two companies announced in January 2024.
After months of preparation, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd presented the finalized route maps and updated network plan. In the face of ongoing disruptions in the Red Sea, an alternative route via the Cape of Good Hope has also been proposed. The final network configuration is expected to be announced in October 2024.
Depending on the chosen configuration, the new Gemini Cooperation network will comprise 27 or 29 main lines supported by 30 regional shuttles and a fleet of 300-340 vessels. The initiative aims to increase the flexibility and reliability of global maritime shipping.
