Tokayev stressed the importance of developing the transport potential of Central Asia.

Speaking at the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed the importance of developing the region’s transit and transport potential. He noted the need to adopt a Comprehensive Strategy for the Development of the Central Asian Transport System, including key projects such as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the North-South Corridor, and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Tokayev also stressed the importance of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, which is the shortest route to the Persian Gulf countries. The President added that Kazakhstan views the construction of the Trans-Afghan Railway as a promising project that opens access to the markets of South Asia.

Kazakhstan is actively modernizing its transport and transit infrastructure, planning to renew 11,000 kilometers and build over five thousand kilometers of new railways by 2030.
