In Lithuania, a batch of export grain was delivered to the port of Klaipeda along the Neman River for the first time. The barge, which carried a thousand tons of grain, departed from the Jurbarkas river port, which was an important step in the development of water transport in the country.

Linas Agro became the first Lithuanian organization to decide to use the Neman for grain transportation. According to the Deputy Minister of Transport of Lithuania Mindaugas Tarnauskas, using the river for cargo transportation is a safe and cost-effective alternative to road transportation.

This waterway, which connects Kaunas and Klaipeda, is part of the trans-European transport network TEN-T. The modernization of the shipping route between these cities in 2023 opened up new opportunities for Lithuania in the field of cargo transportation, which allowed the start of grain transportation from Jurbarkas by river in 2024.
