A new route for transporting grain from Ukraine through the Port of Duisburg.

Rhenus Port Logistics Rhein-Ruhr has opened a new covered terminal and specialized equipment for loading grain from Ukraine at Terminal 4 of the Port of Duisburg. Previously, it was sent through the port of Odessa, but now the railway route through Ukraine, Poland and Germany is used. Upon arrival in Duisburg, the grain is transferred from containers to river vessels, allowing sensitive cargo to be quickly transported to its next destination by coordinating the arrival of rail and shipping services.

In the Port of Duisburg, the Rhein-Ruhr Terminal, which provides ample storage capacity, specializes in services and multimodal connections with various modes of transport. Rhenus partners are also involved in the transportation of Ukrainian corn: Contargo, a specialist in container logistics, and Rhenus LBH PartnerShip, responsible for further transportation via inland waterways.

The process of transporting grain includes numerous stages of transshipment, which is one of the main difficulties of the route. In the Ukrainian border town of Mostiska, grain is transferred from wagons to standard European containers. On the border with Poland, cargo is equipped with special GPS seals, which are removed at the German-Polish border. Partners Rhenus and Contargo analyzed the entire supply chain for four months before operations began, coordinating all customs procedures and the arrival of rail and river vessels to ensure timely cargo processing.
