Siemens Mobility is expanding the automation of the railway network in Denmark by signing contracts with DSB and Banedanmark. The agreements involve converting the entire Copenhagen S-Bahn network to driverless operation, at a total cost of approximately €270 million. The first driverless trains are expected on the line in 2030.
This is a new stage in the cooperation between Siemens Mobility and Danish Railways, which began in 2016. Automation will increase the intensity of train traffic, improve schedule accuracy and overall system reliability.
The project will be implemented in stages with minimal disruption to train services, with a goal of completion by 2038. This also includes upgrading the depot and dispatch systems to meet growing passenger traffic in the Danish capital.
