Over the weekend, the Port of Koper welcomed the historic arrival of the CMA CGM SCANDOLO, marking the first-ever LNG-powered ship to dock at the port. Among CMA CGM’s fleet, the SCANDOLO is one of 35 ships already powered by LNG, with plans to increase this number to 120 by 2028. This strategic shift aims to slash CO2 emissions by up to 20% compared to traditional fuel-powered vessels. It’s a pivotal move in line with CMA CGM’s pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning with broader industry efforts to mitigate climate change.

LNG propulsion stands out as a leading alternative energy source in maritime transport, offering substantial reductions in pollutants like sulphur oxide (SOx), nitrogen oxide (NOx), and particulate matter (PM). The Port of Koper is also advancing its sustainability agenda by investing in renewable energy infrastructure, including photovoltaic power plants set to come online this summer. These initiatives reflect a collective push towards a greener, more sustainable future for global shipping.
