The visit of World Bank representatives to the port of Aktau was a key step in solving the problem of the falling level of the Caspian Sea, which has become a real challenge for the regional community. A team of experts from HR Wallingford will carry out extensive research over the next 18 months, including analyzing historical data, using regional climate models and creating digital elevation and hydrology models.
The application of hydrodynamic modeling for the entire Caspian Sea and the port of Aktau, taking into account future climate change scenarios, will provide valuable data and recommendations. These results will be implemented in subsequent projects for the reconstruction and modernization of the port infrastructure, aimed at overcoming the negative consequences of sea level decline.
The problem of reducing the level of the Caspian Sea is of serious concern to experts due to the potential long-term consequences for the environment, economy and social spheres. The World Bank’s visit to the port of Aktau highlighted the practical implementation of the port’s initiatives in solving this problem and emphasized the need for joint efforts to preserve the unique ecosystem and ensure sustainable development of the region.
