On October 27, the inaugural phase of constructing the national hydrogen network was officially launched in Rotterdam’s port, with distinguished guests including King Willem-Alexander, Minister Jetten for Climate and Energy Policy, Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb, and the King’s Commissioner. This strategic network, spanning 1,200 kilometers, is accessible to all hydrogen suppliers and buyers, providing connectivity to five Dutch industrial clusters and establishing a link to Germany through the Delta Rhine Corridor.

The initial segment, covering over 30 kilometers, extends from the Maasvlakte conversion park to Pernis. Notably, the construction of the first of four hydrogen plants is underway at the conversion park. The Holland Hydrogen 1 plant, with a capacity of 200MW, will generate green hydrogen using offshore wind farm electricity and is slated to deliver its first batch to Pernis by 2025, marking a significant milestone in the network’s development.

Beyond its immediate impact, the hydrogen network’s substantial storage capabilities enhance flexibility in green energy supply. This initiative not only positions the Netherlands as a key European hydrogen hub but also catalyzes the growth of the international hydrogen market, contributing to the broader goal of enhancing European energy independence.
