On October 18, 2023, a ceremonial opening marked the inauguration of the state road DC403 from the Škurinje junction to the Port of Rijeka in Rijeka. This connection links the container terminal to the Croatian highway network, providing easy access to the western part of the city and the Rijeka bypass, thereby enhancing overall traffic safety.

With a total project cost of 69 million euros, 85% of which is financed by European funds, this three-kilometer section has become the most expensive and complex road project in Croatia. The Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure successfully attracted European funds, completing the project on time, including the construction of the Podmurvice tunnel, Mlaka viaduct, and Piopi viaduct.

The DC403 state road will boost the competitiveness of the Port of Rijeka, offering a new route to the city center, improving citizens’ living conditions, and directing truck traffic through the tunnel to stimulate economic growth and development. This solution positions Rijeka alongside modern European cities committed to high standards of safety and environmental sustainability.
