Xi’an sends commemorative Silk Road train through Kazakhstan to mark ‘One belt, one road’ anniversary

Today, a container train departed from the city of Xi’an along the Silk Road, heading through Kazakhstan to the countries of Central Asia, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. The commemorative train is organized by the Sino-Kazakhstan Trading and Logistics Company and the International Dry Port of Xi’an, representing the joint venture Kedentransservice. The train consists of more than 1000 tons of cargo scheduled for delivery within 12-13 days.

It is worth noting that the initiative to establish the economic belt of the Silk Road was proposed by Chinese leader Xi Jinping 10 years ago in Astana. The city of Xi’an plays a crucial role in implementing this initiative by consolidating and processing diverse cargo from various regions of China. The regular movement of trains from Xi’an contributes to the expansion of the transit and transport potential of both Kazakhstan and China. Within this initiative, over 90% of trains pass through Kazakhstan, and over the past 10 years, the container turnover between Kazakhstan and China has exceeded 6.5 million containers, with a sharp increase in volumes in the China-Europe-China direction, growing more than 100 times.
