On October 12, 2023, Adria Tow d.o.o. celebrated the official christening of its latest addition, the tugboat Ares, at Berth I of the Port of Koper.
Adria Tow, a seasoned provider of towage and assistance services at the Port of Koper for over three decades, has significantly bolstered its fleet capacity with the introduction of the new vessel. The Ares, constructed in Gijon, Spain, under the supervision of Adria Tow’s Managing Director, Robert Gerk, now joins the company’s existing fleet of five tugs in Koper.
The investment in the Ares aligns with the Port of Koper’s ongoing efforts to enhance its port facilities, responding to the growing throughput and demand for reliable maritime services. Nevenka Kržan, President of the Management Board of the Port of Koper, commended Adria Tow for its continuous modernization of the tug fleet, emphasizing the critical role of towing services in ensuring the safe arrival and departure of ships, especially in the face of unforeseen events like the storms witnessed this past summer.
During the christening ceremony, Alberto Cattaruzza, owner and director of Adria Tow, represented the company Ocean from Trieste, a co-owner along with Luka Koper. He reflected on the founding of Adria Tow and its rapid development over the years. Gracijan Necmeskal, President of the Slovenian Association of Maritime Transport Agencies, underscored the vital role of tugs in the logistics process, emphasizing that investments in port infrastructure and reliable transportation connections are crucial for the continued development of the port and logistics sector.
