ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is expanding its TransFER network with two new fixed-timetable freight connections. The new services focus on strengthening logistics routes across Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe while creating additional intermodal options at key hubs.
New link for Bosnia and Herzegovina: Tuzla-Rijeka
The TransFER Tuzla-Rijeka is the first connection of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, offering a direct rail link from the Tuzla industrial region to the port of Rijeka. The Croatian port acts as a major gateway for Southern, Central and South-Eastern Europe and provides access to global maritime markets. RCG will operate a weekly service and offer port-to-door solutions to ensure seamless delivery from the terminal to final customers.
Non-stop Budapest-Curtici connection
RCG has also introduced a non-stop TransFER Budapest-Curtici connection, linking two major intermodal hubs once a week. Budapest’s BILK Intermodal Logistics Center is a key node between Western and South-Eastern Europe, while Curtici serves as Romania’s main gateway towards the Balkans and Turkey. The new service complements existing RCG routes such as Budapest-Duisburg, Budapest-Zeebrugge and Wels-Vienna-Budapest, creating continuous transport chains with fewer transshipments and shorter overall transit times.
TransFER concept: freight on fixed timetables
TransFER connections operate on fixed timetables with predefined stops, similar to passenger services. Customers can use conventional wagons or intermodal units such as containers. RCG currently operates over 60 TransFER links, which can be combined into more than 1,500 routing options across its network.
