Construction of the overpass connecting Tvaika Street with Kundziņsala in Riga continues uninterrupted, even during the winter. By the end of this year, approximately 80% of the total work is planned to be completed. The main stages – concreting the overpass and completing key structural elements – are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with full commissioning scheduled for the 2026 construction season.

A key phase of the project was completed last year, when the central steel superstructure began sliding across the Sarkandaugava River. The actual connection between the two banks was completed this spring. During the summer and fall, construction of utility systems, including stormwater and sanitary sewerage, gas supply, lighting, communications, and power supply systems, was underway. The roadway on Tvaika Street and in the closed port area on the Sarkandaugava side was also completed, and half of the overpasses were waterproofed and paved with asphalt. The installation of individual structures and equipment is planned for the site this winter, and full work will resume in the spring, with paving, landscaping, and subsequent load-bearing capacity testing before opening to traffic.

The project includes the construction of an approximately 863.5-meter-long overpass, which will provide a direct and efficient connection to Kundziņsala, the Freeport of Riga’s industrial zone. The new facility will become an important element of Riga’s inner ring road, ensuring convenient freight traffic flows toward the Eastern Highway, the Daudersala Overpass, the Southern Bridge, and Čakstes Street, and reducing traffic and environmental pressure on the city center. Construction is being carried out by the general association “RK link” (SIA “Binders,” SIA “TILTS,” and SIA “Hanza Construction Group”) in cooperation with the municipality and the Freeport of Riga Authority. The total cost of the project is 82.6 million euros, including a state grant of 23 million euros, a loan from the state budget of 59.6 million euros and 4.5 million euros in co-financing from European Union funds.
