ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) announced the launch of two new TransFER rail services for single-car shipments between Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands, as well as the expansion of its intermodal offering to Romania. The new routes aim to improve access to key European logistics hubs and meet the growing demand for direct, reliable, and fast freight connections, including comprehensive first- and last-mile services, transhipment, warehousing, and customs clearance.

The new TransFER Duisburg–Rotterdam service connects the Rheinkamp logistics hub near Duisburg with the Port of Rotterdam, one of Europe’s largest maritime hubs, including the terminals of Waalhaven, Europoort, Botlek, Pernis, and Maasvlakte. The route will operate three round trips per week and provides direct connections without detours or delays between industrial and distribution hubs in Central, Northern, and Western Europe. Freight flows from Germany and Austria are integrated through Rheinkamp, including the Linz-Duisburg-Wels, Linz-Scandinavia-Wels, and Duisburg-Antwerp connections, while additional “antenna” lines from Rotterdam to Moerdijk, Geleen, and Vlissingen expand the delivery geography. At the same time, the TransFER Salzburg-Offenbach service, with two departures per week, has been launched, directly connecting the Salzburg railway hub with the Offenbach logistics hub in the Rhine-Main region. From there, partner ChemOil Logistics ensures onward distribution of freight throughout Germany, France, Leuna, and the Saarland.

At the same time, RCG is updating its intermodal routes to Romania. The previous Genk–Curtici service has been transformed into the TransFER Liège–Curtici service, now operating seven times weekly from Liège, a key Benelux hub with direct connections to the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Zeebrugge. Additionally, a new TransFER Duisburg–Curtici route has been launched, with three weekly round trips for continental shipments, consolidating cargo flows to Curtici via two major hubs: Liège and Duisburg.
