In Kazakhstan, freight and passenger transportation increased by the end of 2025.

By the end of 2025, Kazakhstan’s transport sector demonstrated robust growth across all key areas, with the highest growth rates recorded in freight turnover. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, the total volume of freight transported by all modes increased by 7.9% to 1.164 billion tons, while total freight turnover increased by 13.6% to 584.3 billion ton-kilometers compared to 2024.

Rail transport continues to play a key role in the transportation structure: in 2025, 466.7 million tons of freight were transported by rail, a 6.8% increase compared to the previous year. Rail freight turnover increased by 10.2% to 361.3 billion ton-kilometers. Sea transport demonstrated the most significant growth, with shipment volumes increasing by 42% to over 4 million tons of cargo, and freight turnover reaching 1.86 billion tonne-kilometers, an increase of 17.6% year-on-year.

Positive dynamics were also recorded in the passenger segment. Passenger turnover across all modes of transport in 2025 amounted to 88.9 billion passenger-kilometers, a 7.4% increase compared to 2024, and the total number of passengers carried reached 1.943 billion (an increase of 12.5%). Rail transport was used by 19.4 million passengers. Overall, the physical volume index for services in the “Transport and Warehousing” sector reached 120.4% for the year, reflecting the high level of business activity in the industry.
