The Almaty branch of the main railway network completed 2025 with solid performance results, ensuring the stable operation of one of Kazakhstan’s key railway arteries. Key routes connecting the south of the country with other regions and neighboring countries, including the Dostyk and Altynkol international border crossings, pass through the region. Throughout the year, a primary focus was on traffic safety, service quality, and the implementation of modern technological solutions. The number of safety incidents decreased to two, compared to three the previous year, and the failure rate of technical devices remained at the 2024 level.
Significant infrastructure work was completed during the reporting period. Major repairs were carried out on nearly 30 kilometers of track, 56 new switches were laid and 44 were replaced, and extensive replacement of rail supports was completed on several sections. Following the completion of summer track maintenance, train speeds were increased by 26 km/h. To improve the safety and reliability of the power supply, over 956 km of overhead contact lines were repaired, power lines and 120 defective towers were replaced, and modern protection systems were installed at the Otar, Uzyn-Agash, and Medeu traction substations. A key event of the year was the launch of service on the double-track Dostyk-Aktogay-Sayak section, a process actively organized by specialists from the Almaty branch.
Concurrently, passenger infrastructure was modernized: the first phase of renovations began at 18 of the branch’s 36 stations, including the reconstruction of utility networks, waiting rooms, platforms, and the introduction of digital services. For its high safety and operational performance, the Almaty Signaling and Communications Division was awarded the status of “Uzdik Signaling and Communications Division.” According to Askar Zheksenbiev, Director of the Almaty Branch of the Mainline Network, despite the challenging year, all key tasks were completed in full, with traffic safety and improved working conditions remaining a priority. This has created a solid foundation for the further development and modernization of the region’s railway infrastructure.
