On January 29, in Tbilisi, Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), a subsidiary of AZCON Holding, met with Lasha Abashidze, Director General of Georgian Railways JSC, and Tamara Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. The parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in rail transport.

During the talks, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan and Georgia continue to work closely together to enhance the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and attract additional freight traffic. The meeting participants focused on developing transit traffic and coordinating joint efforts to strengthen the route’s position in the international market.

The key topic of discussion was the signing of the final acceptance certificate for the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway project, as well as increasing traffic volumes along this line. It was noted that ADY completed the repair, restoration, and modernization of a 184-kilometer section of the BTK in Georgia, which has difficult terrain, which allowed the route’s annual throughput capacity to be increased from 1 to 5 million tons and strengthened the line’s role as one of the main freight arteries of the Middle Corridor.
