Maersk has received the first container ship of a new series with a capacity of 9,000 TEU.

A.P. Moller – Maersk has accepted the delivery of the first container ship in a series of six medium-tonnage vessels, the Tangier Mærsk. The delivery took place at the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group shipyard in Jingjiang, China, three months ahead of schedule.

As Anda Cristescu, Head of Chartering and Newbuilding at Maersk, noted, the arrival of the Tangier Mærsk marks the beginning of a new series and is part of the company’s fleet renewal program aimed at strengthening its long-term competitiveness. Each of the six vessels is designed to carry 9,000 TEU and is equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of running on methanol.

The Tangier Mærsk will make its maiden voyage calling in Shanghai, after which it will be deployed on the TP15 service, connecting East Asia with the US Gulf Coast via the Panama Canal. Delivery of four more vessels in the series is expected before the end of this year, and the transfer of the last one is scheduled for early 2027.
