Kazakhstan’s transport and warehousing sectors continue to grow in January 2026.

The Transport and Warehousing section’s asset turnover index reached 105.1% of January 2025. During the month, 87.8 million tonnes of freight were transported (+5.4%), freight turnover amounted to 48.4 billion tonne-km (+5.4%), passenger traffic reached 157.6 million passengers (+10.1%), and passenger turnover amounted to 7.3 billion p-km (+3.1%).

Transportation dynamics were mixed. Rail transport carried 36.5 million tonnes of freight (-2.4%), but freight turnover increased by 11.7%, passenger traffic decreased by 2.3%, and passenger turnover increased by 1.1%. Road transport demonstrated freight traffic growth of 30.4% and passenger traffic growth of 10.3%. Pipeline and maritime transport volumes decreased, while air transport increased passenger turnover by 7.8%.

Regional trends are also positive: freight turnover growth was recorded in Astana (+31.6%), Zhetisu (+75.9%), Turkestan (+75.5%), and Abay (+43.4%) regions, while passenger turnover increased in Shymkent (+30.2%), Almaty (+13.5%), Kostanay region (+41.3%), and Zhetisu (+38.3%). January 2026 demonstrates continued positive trends in the sector, despite differences across modes of transport.
