Logistics and shipping company CLdN announced an agreement with multimodal operator Samskip to acquire its container and door-to-door business between continental Europe, the UK, and Ireland. The deal covers services connecting Rotterdam with key UK and Irish ports, handling over 1,000 vessel calls annually, as well as cargo transportation for a wide range of customers, including consumer goods manufacturers. As part of the transaction, CLdN will receive lease agreements for over 5,000 multimodal units – containers of various types, including refrigerated containers and specialized flatcars.

Post-regulatory approvals, CLdN will ensure the continuity of Samskip’s existing services and integrate them into its own network. The transfer of operations includes the transfer of some contracts with suppliers, including agreements for road freight, rail and barge connections, vessel sharing, and port operations. The deal strengthens CLdN’s position in the short-sea container shipping segment and aligns with its strategy of combining RoRo services for general cargo and LoLo solutions for container flows, expanding the scope of its multimodal door-to-door services between the UK, Ireland, and Central and Eastern Europe.

CLdN CEO Florent Maes noted that the asset integration will allow clients to gain a broader shipping geography, increased frequency, and an expanded equipment fleet. Samskip CEO Olafur Orri Olafsson emphasized that the sale of its UK and Irish routes will enable the company to focus on strategic long-haul markets. The parties are not disclosing the financial terms of the transaction; completion is expected upon receipt of the necessary antitrust and regulatory approvals.
