Ellerman City Liners announced the relaunch of its iPEX 2 service with a new Gdynia-Hull-Gdynia rotation, strengthening the direct short-sea connection between Poland and the UK. The updated route includes a call at the Port of Hull, bringing cargo closer to key logistics hubs in Northern England and the Midlands, including Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Doncaster, Nottingham, and Birmingham.
The company notes that the new scheme reduces the distance of road freight across the UK, lowers domestic transport costs, and increases the predictability of supply planning for importers. Polish exporters, in turn, benefit from shorter delivery distances within the UK, reducing overall transit time and accelerating the delivery of goods to regional markets. Additionally, the service integrates expedited transhipment options to Portugal, providing flexible freight flows across Europe and supporting multimodal solutions.
As the company’s Commercial Director, Peter Andrews, emphasized, moving the UK port to Hull has become a strategic advantage for both parties. The service relies on uncongested ports and terminals, allowing for a stable weekly schedule. Furthermore, shortsea shipping under iPEX 2 can reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 50% compared to road-based alternatives, enhancing the environmental impact of supply chains.
