KTZ and Afghanistan discussed the growth of transportation volumes and the development of railway cooperation.

In Astana, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Organization for Cooperation of Railways, a working meeting took place between Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KTZ, and Sahebzada Mawlawi Muhammad Ishaq, Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Public Works for Railway Transport. The parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the fields of freight transportation and infrastructure development.

During the negotiations, it was noted that the volume of railway traffic between the two countries is demonstrating steady growth. Over the first three months of 2026, this figure increased by 77%, reaching 1 million tons. Growth was recorded in both export and transit shipments, including deliveries of Kazakhstani grain, ferrous metals, chemical products, mineral fertilizers, and flour.

Particular emphasis was placed on the increase in exports of Kazakhstani flour to Afghanistan, which rose to 291,000 tons – a 37% increase compared to the same period last year. Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to further expand cooperation and boost transportation volumes.
