Region Skåne and Skånetrafiken have awarded VR Sverige a new contract to operate the Pågatågen regional rail services in southern Sweden.
VR Sverige has now won the Pågatågen contract for the third consecutive term, retaining responsibility for operations of a core component of public transport in Skåne. The operator will continue to handle maintenance and servicing of the fleet in cooperation with Euromaint.
Under the new arrangement, Skånetrafiken will assume responsibility for replacement bus services during disruptions, with the aim of improving coordination and passenger service. VR Sverige will maintain its local organisation in southern Sweden, with the Pågatågen headquarters remaining adjacent to Malmö Central station.
VR Pågatågen employs around 750 staff. In addition to the Pågatågen network, VR Sverige is the second-biggest Swedish passenger rail operator, also operating the Öresundståg, Tåg i Bergslagen, X-trafik, Norrtåg services, and will take over Mälartåg operations from 2026.
