Kalmar has expanded its production facility in Shanghai to increase capacity and efficiency.

In May 2026, Kalmar completed the expansion of its facility in Shanghai – a project aimed at optimizing production processes and increasing equipment output. As part of this initiative, operational efficiency was enhanced through the centralization of post-assembly operations, while a foundation was established for future production growth and the further development of the company’s electric equipment portfolio.

Operational since 2005, the facility manufactures a wide range of cargo-handling equipment, supplying it to regions across the Asia-Pacific, Africa, South America, Oceania, and the Middle East. Situated in close proximity to one of the world’s largest ports, the plant benefits from access to river-based logistics and China’s extensive railway network, thereby bolstering its export capabilities.

Kalmar notes that this expansion enables the adaptation of production lines for the assembly and testing of electric models, thereby enhancing both process safety and efficiency. According to company management, the Shanghai facility remains a pivotal component of Kalmar’s global manufacturing network, producing reachstackers, forklifts, container handlers, and terminal tractors for an international client base.
