Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has announced the expansion of infrastructure for handling Airbus aviation components at the Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT) in the Port of Hamburg. New storage areas were officially opened during a joint ceremony attended by the shipping company COSCO SHIPPING and Airbus. This expansion will enable a further increase in the volume of aviation parts exported from Hamburg to China.

Large, pre-assembled Airbus aircraft sections have been shipped via this route since 2008; components are transported from the Hamburg plant to the CTT terminal, stored temporarily in a specialized zone, and then loaded onto COSCO SHIPPING vessels for transport to Tianjin, where final assembly takes place. The expansion has doubled the number of storage slots to 20; notably, nearly 300 aviation components with a total weight exceeding 5,000 tons passed through the terminal in 2025 alone.

HHLA noted that the terminal’s development includes the implementation of new technologies, such as an advanced mooring system that boosts cargo handling efficiency and an extended wind barrier to protect sensitive components. The company emphasized that handling aviation products requires strict adherence to safety standards, with specially trained personnel regularly conducting quality control and inspections. According to HHLA project manager Jaber Ghanim, the collaboration with Airbus and COSCO SHIPPING has created the conditions for further growth in high-tech product exports and has strengthened Hamburg’s position as a key logistics hub for international supply chains.
