At the end of June, Georgian Railway recorded a record volume of freight traffic over the past ten years. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Economy of Georgia Tamar Ioseliani, noting that 1.36 million tons of cargo were transported through the country’s railway network in a month.
According to Ioseliani, the maximum indicator was achieved thanks to the large-scale development and modernization of the railway infrastructure. The Georgian authorities emphasize that the results of the reforms are already noticeable and have a significant impact on the efficiency of the country’s transport system.
Among the key projects that contributed to the growth of transportation, the Deputy Minister highlighted the modernization of the transshipment section, completed in December 2025, as well as the resumption of full operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line. These changes significantly strengthened the position of the Georgian railway and increased the importance of the Trans-Caspian international transport route.
