The Government of Ukraine has allocated significant funds for the development of river transport. The approved draft state budget for 2025 provides for the allocation of UAH 409.1 million for the maintenance, reconstruction and development of inland waterways and river transport infrastructure.
These funds will be used to solve a number of important tasks, in particular:
- Modernization of shipping locks: it is planned to carry out repair work, technical re-equipment and ensure proper protection of lock structures.
- Maintaining the shipping condition of rivers: the funds will be used to carry out dredging, clear river beds and remove other obstacles to navigation.
- Development of the river information service: it is planned to modernize navigation systems, create modern information resources for shippers.
- Ensuring the safety of navigation: the funds will be used to carry out hydrographic work, install navigation signs and ensure the safety of ship traffic.
Thanks to this investment, Ukraine will be able to significantly improve the efficiency of river transport, increase its cargo turnover and make it more competitive compared to other types of transport. This, in turn, will contribute to the development of the country’s economy and improve the environmental situation.
