The Port of Tallinn and JetGas have signed an agreement to establish a liquefied methane terminal in the Port of Muuga. The project involves the staged construction of five methane storage tanks and a connecting pipeline to the berth. The first stage, including the construction of one tank, is planned to be completed by the end of 2027, and the entire complex no later than 2030.
The initiative is a logical continuation of the search for investors for the development of 7.6 hectares of free land in the eastern part of the port. In March 2024, the port administration proposed to establish an LNG terminal or other production and logistics complex on this site. If there is no need for an LNG terminal, the area is planned to be used for warehouse or production facilities.
The project will contribute to the development of the infrastructure of the Port of Muuga, providing additional opportunities for handling energy cargo and strengthening Estonia’s position as a logistics hub.
