A new port fleet base has been launched in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda. It is a key infrastructure facility for accommodating vessels and equipment responsible for harbour maintenance. Environmental services, divers, repair shops and vessel crews will work here, ensuring stable and prompt support for all processes in the port.
As noted by the Director General of the Klaipeda State Seaport Algis Latakas, the new base is a strategic step that expands technical capabilities and guarantees operational reliability. A solar power plant, a shore power supply system, car charging stations and infrastructure for hybrid and hydrogen vessels have already been installed on the territory.
By the end of the year, the base will accommodate 9 specialized vessels belonging to the port administration. The cost of the project was 5.4 million euros. In addition, the first project in Lithuania to produce environmentally friendly hydrogen will be launched on the site of the old base. It will become fuel for the country’s first hydrogen garbage collection vessel, the construction of which is nearing completion.
