China’s Anji Logistics, a subsidiary of SAIC Group, has sent the world’s largest car carrier Anji Ansheng, with a capacity of 9,500 CEU, on its maiden voyage. The vessel is heading from China to Europe and is the first in a series of 14 similar vessels, the construction of which was financed as part of a $1.4 billion investment program.

Anji Ansheng was built at the China Merchants Jinling shipyard and is 228 meters long, 37.8 meters wide and has a draft of up to 7.8 meters. In the future, the vessel is planned to be converted to environmentally friendly fuel – methanol, which is in line with the company’s commitment to sustainable shipping.

SAIC Group’s fleet already includes 35 vessels used to transport cars on routes to Western Europe, the Mediterranean, Mexico, South America, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. Anji Ansheng’s conclusion confirms the company’s ambitions in the global automotive logistics sector.
